Trevs 1972 R/T E49 Charger

Trev bought this totally original E49 in 1997.  The first owner of the car was a man in Kalgoorlie who had traded a GT Falcon in on it (I guess he knew a better thing when he saw it), kept the car for around five years and then sold it.  He told Trev that he sold it because his kids were approaching licensing age and he didn't want them to get their hands on it.  Another country guy purchased the car and basically stored it for twenty years.

The E49 Charger remains Australia's fastest accelerating production car ever made.  It was powered by a Triple dual-throat Weber fed 265 HEMI.  These E49 sixpack engines were produced in a special division of Chrysler Australia and produced over 300 horsepower.

These engines were fitted with specially strengthened and shotpeened internals.  The power was then fed through to a strengthened BW 4-speed gearbox with unique ratio's via a heavy duty twin-plate clutch.  The torque then reached the rear wheels through a 4-pinion BW Limited-Slip-Differential.

The wheels are the original 7"x14" alloys.  This car was also fitted with a TrackPack which consisted of a 16:1 fast ratio steering box, adjustability for oversteer/understeer was built into the rear spring hangers, special shocks and brakes also came with the package.

Trevs car is one of only 149 E49 Chargers ever produced making it a rare beast indeed.  Especially as it sports all its original panels and has no rust-repair sections welded or anything like that.  This car remains as straight as it came out of the factory, which is the way Trev intends to keep it.

This E49 has a genuine 38,000 miles on the clock and still cuts easy 14 second quarter miles.

A quick getaway at the Mt Ommanney Hillclimb.
