Trev has only owned one car before his E49, and that was this Topaz Gold 1976 VK Valiant Charger 770. It was fitted with a 318 cubic inch V8 and BW 4-speed gearbox.
Trev basically learnt how to drive properly (well sort of anyway) in this car. Mastering the art of lengthy burnouts, figure 8's etc. Trev needed more power though, and that came shortly after with Trev stripping the 318 down in readiness for delivery to an engine shop to do all the machining. After removing the heads Trev found he could wobble four pistons in the bores, this donk was way too tired to be used for a performance block.
So the decision was made to junk the block, as it required 4 sleeves, and use a 318 truck block. We then machined down the main cap journals to accept the longer stroke 360 crank.
With a 30 thou overbore this raised capacity to 349 cubic inches and with it the compression ratio to around 11-1. This would necessitate the use of AVGAS, but Trev didn't care as he used a bike for most of his transport needs. The donk was then fitted with a mild cam, Edelbrock Performer, 360 'J' cast heads fitted with 2.02-1.60 valves, ISKY springs, 273 adjustable rockers etc.
The 4-speed was sold to make way for a fully manualised 727 Torqueflite with a B&M Quiksilver ratchet shifter helping to click through the gears.
The BW diff was replaced with a 3.50 geared 9" taken from an XBGT Falcon. This came with disc brakes on it and was fitted along with a larger brake booster and vacuum tank to cater for the vacuum drop caused by the cam.
Trev kept this car until early 1998 when it was sold after Trev bought the E49 featured elsewhere in this site. The car drove great though, the body was shot, but Trev does miss his old gold beast.
